This was the biggest smallie I caught the past few days fishing Lake Mead, an 18 and a half incher. Needed one that size in the tournament. We (@dstewartfishing and I) dropped down to 26th place on day 2. Oh well. Decent start given the “7-2 off suit” we were dealt, lol. Seeing the 25% battery charge (12 hours charging...ugh) this morning made for a challenge. Battery management was key and we had to adjust our day and the way we fished. Covering lots of water wasn’t an option. We made the best of it though. No boats allowed. Fun shore sesh with @adventure_ambassador for a half day. We caught some bass, saw some nice carp (no bites). Exploring new water is always fun. Post spawner, very skinny. When in doubt, can’t go wrong with a @vmchooks Moon Eye Jig and Swimbait (Sufix Advanced Mono 8lb line). Lucked into a nice crappie suspended over deep water. Catch-photo-release. Anyone targeting crappie right now? This was one of my biggest carp in long time. Put my gear to the test! Was able to pull it out of the weeds after it buried down into them. Using the new @vmchooks Techset Live Bait Hook (#4) with new Sufix Advanced Mono (8lb) helped a lot to absorb the shock of the big runs it made. This is the same set up I also use for wacky rigging 4” stick baits for bass. I just switch between bread or the wacky jig for bass and carp.
